Hawaii favorites, soprano Rachel Schutz and pianist Jonathan Korth, present an evening of traditional and unusual art song from around the world. In the first half of this diverse program, the two will take a tour around Europe. You'll hear them undertake masterpieces by Schubert, Schumann and Strauss and a few hyper-romantic songs of Sergei Rachmaninoff, while also exploring the some lesser-known Scandinavian art songs by Grieg, Rangström and Sibelius. For the second half, they turn their attention to popular and contemporary art music of the United States. George Crumb's iconic Apparition, for amplified piano and voice, will be paired with a selection of favorite Gershwin songs from his American Song Book.
